CrimeReports.com (Will This Work?)

crimereports.jpgAccording to their website, CrimeReports.com is a service that "provides law enforcement agencies with an affordable and easy-to-use Web-based service for managing and controlling the sharing of crime data with the public, in near real-time. Community members can then access their neighborhood crime information for free, empowering them to make informed decisions to help improve the safety of their families, friends, property and the community at large."

It seems to be the first such service of its kind and their website has a very clean look and seems to be very user friendly. As of the time of this post, they only have a few agencies providing data and expects to expand exponentially in the near future. Other sources, such as God To Be, suggest they will be using Google Maps to map out crimes reported by agencies in the area.

Question:

Do you think this will work? If so, will it make our communities safer? Please leave your comments and/or suggestions.

Hey, when I see some Vehicle Thefts happening in my area, i'm going to lock my car, put on "the CLUB" and put it in the garage.
So, in answer to your question "will this make the community safer?" I think it will in 2 ways. I'll protect myself more by keeping my eyes open, also I may be able to help the police by giving tips when I see something suspicious. Also, this will help police officers to easily spot trends in certain areas.

I hope it does help reduce crime but only time will tell.

If they could get it to work it would be quite useful not just for the already given personal reasons but also in planning non-profit actions adn crime prevention solutions
